Hi!

Welcome to my tiny baby blog. There's not much to see yet, but I'll keep eating and drinking to keep you all entertained!

How many tortillas is too many tortillas?

How many tortillas is too many tortillas?

The limit does not exist...

The limit does not exist...

I've only been in Guatemala for 4 days, and I've sincerely eaten tortillas with every single meal. No exaggeration. And please do not mistake me, I am NOT complaining. Nor do I plan on stopping anytime soon. I've got a week left, so let's keep this tortilla train running!

These are not the ordinary tortillas most of us are used to in the states. In San Antonio El Ángel, the small village where Programa Sueños operates, I've been woken each morning by the clapping sound of hands forming the masa and the smell of the wood smoke from the fire where the tortillas are being cooked. They're served warm and wrapped in a colorful dishcloth, which never seems to be empty.

As I write this, I think my official tortilla tally is somewhere up near 25 by now, so check back to see how many it takes for me to get sick of them. [Spoiler alert, it ain't gonna happen!]

The locals say a young woman is ready to marry when she's able to make a tortilla. At this rate, I'll be a spinster forever.
